Zusammenfassung (Englisch)

Social competencies are becoming more and more important in the business world. Furthermore in a lot of job advertisements social competencies are frequently demanded from applicants. Surveys showed that the importance of social competencies is getting higher in the field of project management too. The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into the expectations of the project staff concerning the social competencies of a project manager in the Austrian IT Service sector. This paper also shows if there are some existing differences between female and male project collaborators concerning their expectations. The empirical data of this paper were obtained by using interviews with experienced project collaborators, three female and three male, who are working as members in their respective project teams in the IT Service sector. The empirical data confirms that social competencies are becoming more important in the project management area. In addition to that no real differences between female and male project collaborators concerning their expectations could be determined. Further research should use a larger sample to confirm and generalize these findings. The paper gives an overview which dimensions of the social competencies project managers should have to be successful in this working field.
